The total number of sessions required varies for each individual, depending on the age of the tattoo, the depth of the ink, the specific colours used, and the tattoo’s location on the body. For example, darker pigments like black and blue typically respond faster to skin laser treatment than brighter hues like yellow or green. During your initial consultation at our clinic, we will assess your ink and provide a personalised treatment plan tailored to your specific goals.

The tattoo removal procedure is relatively quick, though larger or more intricate designs may require more time per session. Most patients describe the sensation as similar to the snap of a rubber band against the skin. Results are not instantaneous, as the body needs time to flush out the shattered ink particles, so you will notice the most significant changes in the weeks following each appointment.

Our tattoo removal treatment process includes:

• Initial Consultation – A thorough assessment of the tattoo’s size, colour, and ink depth is conducted to determine the estimated number of sessions required and to tailor the laser settings to your specific skin type as per the Fitzpatrick assessment. You will be required to have a patch test as part of this assessment before any further treatment sessions are completed. This will be reviewed 7-14 before proceeding.
• Procedure – During the session, high-intensity light beam pulses are directed at the tattoo, breaking down the ink particles into smaller fragments without damaging the surrounding tissue.
• Immune System Response – Following the treatment, the body’s lymphatic system naturally identifies the fragmented ink particles as waste and gradually flushes them out over several weeks.
• Gradual Fading – Results are cumulative; while some fading may be visible after the first session, significant clearing typically occurs over a series of appointments spaced several weeks apart.
• Final Outcome – Most patients achieve substantial removal or complete clearing of the ink, leaving the skin ready for a new design or restored to its natural appearance.

Adhering to strict aftercare protocols is essential for achieving the best results and maintaining skin health. We recommend the following:

• Keep the Area Clean and Dry – Gently wash the treated area with mild soap and water twice a day, then pat dry. Avoid soaking the area in baths, pools, or hot tubs until it is fully healed.
• Apply Recommended Ointments – Use a thin layer of antibiotic ointment or a specialised healing balm as directed by your technician to prevent infection and keep the skin hydrated.
• Protect from Sun Exposure – The treated skin will be highly sensitive to UV rays. Keep the area covered or apply a high-SPF mineral sunscreen to prevent hyperpigmentation and scarring.
• Avoid Picking or Scratching – It is common for the area to go red, crust, blister or scab. Do not pick at these, as doing so can lead to permanent scarring or skin discolouration.
• Monitor for Adverse Reactions – While mild redness and swelling are normal, contact your provider immediately if you notice signs of infection, such as excessive pus, increasing pain, or spreading redness.
• Microneedling Treatment –– For those looking to further enhance their skin’s texture following removal, a microneedling treatment can be an excellent way to stimulate collagen and refine the area.

Laser tattoo removal achieves gradual fading rather than immediate removal.  Most patients require multiple treatments over several months, and while significant clearance is common, complete removal cannot always be guaranteed.
