The fat dissolving injections are a simple, safe and effective alternative to liposuction.

Aqualyx™ contains desoxycholan-acid, a secondary bile acid, which the body naturally produces itself in the liver to aid the digestion of fat. The injectable solution is synthesised to dissolve topical fat upon injection into the localised area.

The human body naturally stores fat in order to supply energy and subcutaneous fat cells are difficult to diminish. The active substance in Aqualyx locks into the cell wall making it unstable and releasing the fatty acid that is stored within it. Cell residue is removed and broken down by the body’s defences and the released fatty acids are converted to energy.

Aqualyx® improves the body’s contours by removing stubborn pockets of localised fat that don’t respond to diet or increased physical exercise, like under the chin or on the hips.

Aqualyx fat dissolving injections can reduce the appearance of fat to give a smoother, more contoured appearance. 

Due to the low risk, non-invasive nature of this fat reduction procedure, the side effects and dangers are limited. Some patients may experience the following side effects, which can last up to 5 days: itching; redness; swelling; bruising; mild discomfort.

At the initial consultation, Shikha will go through your medical history to ensure you are fit for the treatment. She will then discuss the treatment, benefits and the important after care with you. You will be given a detailed information leaflet to take home and study.

Once you have signed a consent, Shikha will mark, disinfect the treatment are and apply topical anaesthetic for comfort.

The treatment itself is very straight forward. Shikha will inject the Aqualyx® in 1-4 injection points per treatment area using a long thin and bendy needle to access the subcutaneous fat. The gel-based solution works by disrupting the surface of the fat cells, causing them to weaken and become permeable. An ultrasound treatment is then used to push the fat out of the cells to be absorbed by the body and excreted.

Aqualyx® contains local anaesthetic so is a comfortable procedure to have. The area will feel warm and you may experience a slight burning or stinging sensation. Topical anaesthetic can be applied for extra comfort.

The number of treatments varies according to the amount of fat and desired result, on average you will be expected to have 3-5 treatments The recommended interval between treatments is 4-6 weeks.

Once the swelling disappears, your recovery is finished, and you will be able view the results in a matter of 2 months. By following a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and healthy living the fat should not return in that area.

A reduction in fat deposits can be seen after just one treatment, however more than one session is recommended to achieve desired results. The number of session recommended depends on the treated area and will be discussed in your consultation.

Immediately after treatment, you may experience slight redness, swelling, tenderness and an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injections and will settle.

The inconvenience is temporary and generally disappears in a few days. If it continues or if other reactions occur, please call us. The results directly after the treatment should not be seen as the final result.

You will be given a detailed information leaflet to take home and study.

• The treated area should not be exposed to direct heat (sauna, sun, etc.) or extreme cold.

• Avoid touching the treatment area for 6 hours after the treatment. After that the area can be gently washed with soap and water, and light make-up can be applied in the case of the neck/jaw area after 24 hours.

• Application of cosmetics to the treated area should be avoided for at least 12 hours.

• Abstain from demanding exercise for 5-7 days.

• Maintain a healthy diet (not takeaways, fatty foods) while released fat is being metabolised to avoid fat storage elsewhere.

• Drink plenty of fluids following treatment.

• Avoid any blood thinners (e.g. alcohol, aspirin, Vitamin E, some herbal preparations and supplements) for 2 days prior to and 2 days after treatment. Thin blood results in increased risk of bruising, so help minimise bruising risk by avoiding anything that can thin your blood).

• Take arnica tablets as follows: 2 tablets every 2 hours for 5 days prior to the treatment. The 30c potency are best.
