Recently there has been a resurgence of popularity in the ‘Russian lip’ approach to lip fillers. Born out of the lip shape of beautiful Russian supermodels, the Russian lip technique focuses on creating a gorgeous, subtle ‘heart-shaped’ pout – much like those of a Russian doll, or even a Bratz doll!
The Russian lip technique works first and foremost to build height and shape, lifting and building volume in the centre. To achieve this the lip filler is injected vertically, working from the base of the lip in tiny droplets and drawing it out toward the lip’s outline. The tiny drops of product are carefully deposited between the lip’s tissue, and this opens, widens and lifts the body of the lip in the targeted area. This is an intricate technique that conjures beautiful, natural looking results.
The key difference between Russian lip fillers and standard lip fillers is the technique. Traditional lip filler is generally administered from the outside-in, starting from the border and working towards the centre– whereas Russian fillers require the opposite. Russian lip fillers tend to be a slightly longer procedure as the tiny droplets are placed specifically and carefully to create the doll-like shape, whilst traditional fillers add volume and plumpness to a more general area across the lips.
The finished result is also slightly different; whilst both types of lip fillers add fullness and hydration, the intended shape differs. Russian fillers focus on defining the Cupid’s bow area and lifting the lip, without using any filler in the border– retaining more of a ‘flatness’ against the face. Traditional fillers are injected in the lip’s border, plumping the lips further away from the face. Both techniques produce beautiful outcomes and, as no pair of lips are the same, the shape varies for everyone!
Russian fillers last just the same amount of time as traditional lip fillers. The product does not vary between Russian lip fillers and traditional lip fillers, just the technique used. In both cases we use the highest quality, premium injectables that are rich in nourishing hyaluronic acid. Lip fillers can last from 6 to 12 months, depending on the patient, the type of filler used, and the amount of filler injected.
This is a fantastic choice for a first-time lip augmentation, as the treatment can be carried out to look as minimal and natural as you like. Russian lips are perfect for anyone looking to adjust their lip shape to increase volume in the centre of the lip, enhance their Cupid’s bow and achieve a more ‘heart-shaped’ pout. This is also a great option for someone who would like to boost their lip shape and volume without the added overall plumpness of traditional fillers.
Lip filler results are instant, but you may experience a little swelling or bruising. This will subside fully within 14 days of treatment. We advise that you do not apply lip products or makeup for 12 hours after your procedure, and we will always provide you with all necessary aftercare guidance
If you have any questions about Russian lips or fillers in general, please do not hesitate to ask or visit our clinic!
