Botox enters the body via an injection into a muscle, temporarily paralysing the area and stopping it from moving. Our practitioner will gently inject the toxin using a very fine needle.
Botox procedure takes between 15 and 30 minutes allowing you to carry on with your daily routine as normal.
Anti-wrinkle injections (or Botox) are mainly administered around the face particularly the forehead, crow's feet, worry lines and around the eyes and the frown lines between the eyes on the bridge of the nose (glabellar wrinkles).
Botox injections can also be used to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
The botulinum toxin (Botox) used in anti-wrinkle injections is a prescription only medicine. This means that you should have a face to face consultation with a licensed prescriber to assess whether you are suitable for treatment. You can’t have Botox if:
you are pregnant or breastfeeding
you are suffering from a skin injection near the treatment area
you previously had an allergic reaction to this treatment
you are taking any medicines which affect bleeding, such as aspirin
you have neurological issues or are taking certain medications
Although everyone’s pain threshold is different, generally there is no more discomfort than say plucking an eyebrow. So, you may get a slight temporary stinging sensation. We can apply topical local anaesthetic if needed.
Although Botox injection itself can’t be reversed, there are things that can be done to improve your look if you are not happy with it. The effects of the anti-wrinkle injections will wear off within 3-6 months, but until then tweaks can be made, which is why we offer a review appointment 2 weeks after initial treatment to make any minor adjustments.
Usually the problem is too little product used, as it’s better to add more later to even out your features than overdo it at the beginning. Another option may be to use dermal fillers instead, as this can be reversed/dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
Millions of people have used anti-wrinkle injections over the years to minimise the signs of aging. Providing the injections are administered by an experienced practitioner, the procedure is very safe with complications being extremely rare. The aesthetic practitioner should be a doctor, nurse prescriber, dentist or a prescribing pharmacist. Known side effects include headaches, bruising, face pain, redness, skin tightness, muscle weakness, swelling, sensitivity, raised eyebrows and a droopy eyelid.
This will differ from person to person, but patients can expect the results to last between 3 to 6 months, with an average of around 4 months.
The length of time between treatment will vary depending on facial activity and your lifestyle. We recommend having a follow up treatment after 3-6 months.
We don’t advise to exercise, sunbathe or sauna for 48 hours after anti-wrinkle injections treatment. Exercise increases blood flow through the muscles and can potentially diffuse the injections. We also advise not lying down for 4-6 hours after the treatment.
No, we do not recommend having botox while pregnant or breastfeeding.
Botox or anti-wrinkle injections are mainly used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles by paralyzing the underlying muscles.
Botox for Migraines - anti-wrinkle injections are a popular and effective treatment for chronic migraine. You may suffer from chronic migraine if you have more than 15 headache days a month with 4 plus hours of headaches per day. Usually the patient will undergo 31 sites of small anti-wrinkle injections around the head, neck and shoulders targeting the small nerves that carry pain from the brain. The toxin blocks the pain receptors from reaching the nerve and ends that cause a migraine. This treatment can be repeated every 12 weeks until the patient is no longer experiencing chronic migraines.
Botox for Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) - the toxin these botox injections are made of temporarily blocks the release of chemical acetylcholine within the nervous system, which in turn can stop sweat glands from being overstimulated. This is why when botox is injected in the armpit, it can minimise or even entirely prevent sweating. This treatment can be also used to help with sweaty palms, forehead and feet.
Botox for Lazy eye - an anti-wrinkle treatment can be used to correct a squint or developing ‘lazy eye’. The injection of a small amount of the toxin into the eye muscle allows the eye to relax, realign or straighten, depending on the condition.
Botox for Overactive bladder - we would understand if you told us the correlation between botox injections and overactive bladder was hard to see. Believe it or now but in 2013 anti-wrinkle injections became an FDA approved treatment for OAB and incontinence. Overactive bladder can be treated with medications, but if medications don't work for you, the doctor may suggest botox. The injection is administered into the bladder muscle, targeting the nerves that stimulate the need to urinate: calming the nerves and desensitising the trigger.
Botox for muscle spasm - botox can be used to control certain muscle spasms such as twitching on your face or eyelids, lazy eye or cervical dystonia (a condition in which your neck muscles contract automatically, causing your head to twist or turn to one side). Botulinum toxin is injected directly into the muscle stopping it from
Botox for depression - new research suggests that Botox injections, used alongside antidepressants, may be an effective treatment for depression.
Botox brow lift - in this procedure the injections are used to reduce the lines in between your eyebrows as well as lift the height of your eyebrows.
Botox for Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorders - if you suffer from teeth grinding, jaw tension or lockjaw then anti wrinkle injections may help you. During the procedure Botox will be injected into your forehead, temple, and jaw muscles.

When we concentrate, squint or frown the muscles in our face contract. This along with other environmental and lifestyle factors such as ageing, sun exposure, dehydration, smoking, gravity and poor nutrition causes lines and wrinkles to form and eventually become permanent.
Anti-wrinkle injections (also known as anti-aging injections or Botox) are a natural anti-aging treatment that works by interrupting this process, leaving those muscles unable to crease the skin therefore reducing any wrinkles and giving a flawless complexion. It is non-surgical, facial rejuvenation treatment that helps to improve and maintain the appearance of your skin.
